Em meados da década de 70 Paul Simonon, artista e lendário baixista do The Clash (e mais recentemente The Good, The Bad & The Queen and Gorillaz) abandonou a Byam Shaw School of Art com o colega Mick Jones para formar o The Clash, mas ficou responsável pela criação artística, das capas de disco ao styling da banda. In the mid-1970s Paul Simonon, the artist and legendary bass player with The Clash (and more recently The Good, The Bad & The Queen and Gorillaz) dropped out of the Byam Shaw School of Art with fellow-student Mick Jones to form The Clash, but he stayed responsible for the band’s artwork from album covers to clothing. When he swapped the guitar for the paintbrush again in the 1990s, Paul cemented his career as an artist with a sell-out first exhibition and a collaboration with Damien Hirst for the Scottish National Gallery.

Paul’s punk background might suggest he would follow the route of a conceptual artist like Hirst, but in fact he’s more of a traditional painter. Art critics have acknowledged his abilities in portraying a sense of space and light.
